Resolute Wins Award for Energy and GHG Emissions Reduction

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) presented Resolute with the 2020 Leadership in Sustainability Award for Energy Efficiency/Greenhouse Gas Reduction during its virtual Presidents Forum. This marks the second consecutive year Resolute has won this industry award.

The judges recognized our Coosa Pines (Alabama) pulp mill for modernizing its cogeneration turbine to reduce the operation’s environmental and carbon footprint. The $4 million investment led to a 65% reduction in the mill’s scope 2 absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions – equivalent to taking over 20,000 cars off the road.

“We had a record number of submissions to our Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 awards program, which underscores that sustainability is a top priority for our industry, even in the midst of a global pandemic,” said AF&PA President and Chief Executive Officer Heidi Brock. “I continue to be impressed by our industry’s commitment to leadership in sustainability.”

Resolute is committed to reducing our absolute GHG emissions (scope 1 and 2). We are pleased to report that at the end of 2019, we had achieved an impressive 82% reduction company-wide compared to 2000 levels.
